Students who have children or an adult who depends on them financially might be able to get help with the extra costs they have.  More information can be found in the video below:

Childcare Grant

The Childcare Grant helps towards childcare costs for students who have a dependent child aged under 15 at the beginning of the academic year (or under 17 if the child has special educational needs) and they’re in registered or approved childcare. Adult Dependants Grant

Parents Learning Allowance

Parents’ Learning Allowance can help with course-related costs, such as books or travel, for students who have dependent children. Dependants’ Grants – Evidence

When applying for any of the dependants’ grants mentioned above, Student Finance England may ask for additional evidence in support of the application.  This is to ensure students receive all the student finance they are entitled to.  Further information regarding this evidence can be seen in the fact sheet below:

Dependants’ Grants – Calculations

The amount of Dependants’ Grants that a student can get depends on their residual household income. The residual household income is calculated by deducting the relevant disregard from their household income.  For more information regarding how these calculations are made, please see the fact sheet below:

Dependants’ Grants – Finalisation
