Most full time higher education students are not able to claim any additional support as a carer while they are studying. This is because as a full time HE student you will be considered to be studying for more than 21 hours per week. Studying a full time course, even if you are not expected to undertake self directed learning will usually be counted as more than 21 hours a week. There are some exceptions and the Advice Team at the University can give confidential advice regarding this.
The rules are different for part time students studying a higher education course and you may be able to claim additional support depending on the number of hours you are required to study. The Advice Team at the University is available to give confidential advice in this respect.
